A Look back: 2021 Design Trends
2021 was a year of readjusting to a new world where some people stayed home and others didn't. Some chose to travel while others stayed in and continued life in the place they were familiar with and secure. We saw increased investment in home projects that were similar too, if not, more prevalent than 2020. Clients were investing in the spaces they spent the most amount of time. The majority of our redesign clients looked for help with home offices and living room spaces.
We still saw variations of farmhouse trends here in the midwest through lighter colored walls, clean fresh aesthetics and wood furniture, however, families are enjoying adding some color back into their space. Blue hues dominated as the the color of choice.
One of our absolute favorites has been lighting updates in 2021. Gold and Matte Black were the winners. There were some amazing lighting options in 2021. Our clients were thrilled with the new jewelry selected to complete the look in their updated spaces. Like art for the wall, lighting can change the entire look of a room giving it character and style.
Is it possible to add Joy to a room just by adding color? We believe it is possible. Orange, blue and yellow accents made this year stand out in a good way. They brightened up rooms, added visual interest and made clients feel home with their color choices. You shouldn't have to pick a color out just because it's a trend. You should love the way it makes you feel when you walk into the room. Taking time to get to know your needs is our job, yours is to live and love where you are.
Accents of decorative vases, statement walls and house plants have provided a year of visual interest as well as relaxing spaces that have provided a therapeutic environment needed for recovering from the last year of change. We didn't see many requests for sterile white rooms or plain grey space. This trends seems to be falling behind. Earthy tones started making there way back.
